About Our Unit
The Auckland Spinal
Rehabilitation Unit (ASRU) is a regional spinal injury service which
provides comprehensive care for people with a spinal cord injury
from the central north island to the far north.
Auckland Spinal
Rehabilitation Unit is part of Counties Manukau
District Health Board and is located at 30 Bairds Road in South
Auckland in close proximity to Middlemore Hospital.
The service is a 20 bed inpatient
unit that is dedicated to short term rehabilitation for patients of
all ages who have sustained a spinal cord injury with a neurological
deficit. For more information, see
Inpatients.
The outpatient service offers
regular lifelong follow-up for clients once they have been
discharged from our inpatient service. Patients are either assessed
at the Auckland Spinal Rehabilitation Unit or at the Outreach Clinics in their local regions. For more information, see
Outpatients.
The Auckland
Spinal Rehabilitation Unit is one of two regional
spinal rehabilitation services in New Zealand, the other service
being Burwood Spinal Unit at Burwood Hospital
in Christchurch.
